The route departs from the village of Tolox, which is well worth a visit with its narrow and steep streets, fruit of its Andalusian past. In the upper part of the village you can still see remains of an old castle from the Arab period.
Also noteworthy is its spa of healing waters built in 1867, the Balneario de Fuente Amargosa.
The route leaves from the municipality by Erilla Street. From this point, you get a good view of the eastern part of the Sierra de las Nieves.
The first section of the route is the most difficult. It enters the Arroyo Estepera basin, reaching the area known as Chiribenítez. It then ascends through a leafy pine forest.
Reaching the top of this section it starts a small descent that crosses the Arroyo de las Viñas.
It continues through a pine forest to another stream; this time the Arroyo de la Fuente de la Teja. From here, an important climb begins that leads to Puerto Alto from where there are spectacular views of Sierra Canucha and the Sierras Blanca and Parda de Tolox.
