This route takes you to the impressive waterfall of La Rejía in the brown hills of the south of the Sierra de las Nieves.
They are known by that name for the substrates of igneous rocks that contrast in the landscape with the white limestone peaks.
The route covers the high section of the Los Caballos river and other streams. It crosses leafy pine forests and areas of scrubland.
The path will allow you to discover two spectacular waterfalls, La Rejía and Los Horcajuelos. Note the reddish color of this mountain range provided by the rocks of magmatic origin that form it, the peridotites. A very rare type of rock on the surface of the earth and which has its second largest outcrop in the province of Malaga.
Numerous waterfalls make the road more than entertaining to the eye.
The route begins in a lane that starts from the Fuente Amargosa spa. In the so-called Alto de la Cuesta, leave the lane, to start walking through the firewall, in a southeasterly direction. After about 100 meters, take the path on the right. It crosses the skirt of the mountain with a landscape of scrub and resinero forest.
Descend gently, leaving to the left the channel of the river of the Horses which you will cross later. Cross the streams of Sapo and Palmarejo.
At a junction, take the path on the left that leads to the hill of Machoruela, a small dip in the path. The vegetation passes from the thick pine forest to gorse scrub, palmetto and rockrose.
You can appreciate here the reddish - brown color of the peridotites.
From the hill of Machoruela you can see the Salto de la Rejía, in the high channel of the Los Caballos river. Return along the same road to the previous crossing. From here you continue ascending to find a firewall that crosses the lane and reaches the port of Las Golondrinas. Here near a raft that collects water for fires, the route ends.
